Progress toward the five-year goal

FY2023 through FY2027, with four of five years complete. Goal progress always uses the full portfolio and ignores the filters above.

Progress to dateExpected pace (80 percent after four years)

Dollars awarded by fiscal year

Multi-year grants count in full in the year they were awarded.

Investment History

Every grant is shown under its current program name, so a program that was renamed reads as one line of history. The crosswalk on the right shows which names map to which program.

Dollars awarded by program and fiscal year

Stacked by current program name. Hover a segment for the amount and grant count.

Program name crosswalk

Names used on award letters since FY2021, mapped to the program they belong to today.

Program by fiscal year

Dollars awarded, with the board-approved budget and the variance for the selected years.

Geography

Grants are mapped to the city where the grantee organization is based. Expand a region in the table to see its countries, states or provinces, and cities.

Dollars awarded by country

Darker shading means more dollars. Hover a country for totals.

Dollars by region

Share of dollars awarded in the current filters.

Region, country, state or province, and city

Click the arrow beside a row to drill down one level.

Populations and Focus Areas

Grantees choose every population their project serves, so one grant can appear under several populations. Population totals add up to more than the portfolio total for that reason.

Dollars to grants serving each population

Each grant counts in full under every population it serves.

Dollars by primary focus area

Each grant has one primary focus area, so these bars add up to the total.

Focus area by program

Dollars awarded. Darker cells hold more dollars.

Community-led share of dollars by fiscal year

The five-year goal is 40 percent of dollars to community-led organizations.

Grant Explorer

Search any grant by ID, organization, city, or country. The table follows the filters at the top of the page, and the export button saves exactly the rows you see as a CSV file.

Guide to this dashboard

This dashboard covers every grant the Halden Table Fund awarded from FY2021 through FY2026. The fund's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30, so FY2026 covers July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The filters at the top apply to every page except the goal progress panel, which always shows the full portfolio because the goals were set for the whole fund.

Metric definitions

MetricWhat it meansHow it is calculated
Total awardedThe dollars the fund committed in the selected grants.Sum of award amounts. A multi-year grant counts in full in the fiscal year of its award date, which matches how the board approves grants.
Grants awardedThe number of separate grant awards.Count of grant IDs. An organization that received three grants counts three times here.
Organizations fundedHow many different grantees received money.Count of distinct organization IDs in the selected grants.
CountriesHow many countries the selected grantees are based in.Count of distinct countries, based on the grantee's home city.
Average grantThe typical award size.Total awarded divided by grants awarded. The median is shown beside it because a few large multi-year grants pull the average up.
People reached (reported)The number of people grantees said they served.Sum of the figures on interim and final reports, exactly as submitted.
People reached (adjusted)Our best estimate of unique people served.Reported reach multiplied by the adjustment factor for the grant's fiscal year (see the adjustment rule below). Figures flagged for review are left out until the grantee confirms them.
Reach reporting rateHow complete the reach numbers are.Grants with reach on file divided by all grants. Active grants and grants with an overdue final report usually have no reach yet.
Cost per person reachedDollars awarded for each person reached.Award dollars for grants that have adjusted reach on file, divided by that adjusted reach. Grants without reach are left out of both sides so they do not distort the figure.
Community-led shareThe share of dollars going to organizations whose board and staff leadership reflect the community they serve.Dollars to organizations marked community-led divided by total awarded.
Awarded vs. budgetWhether a program spent more or less than its approved budget.Total awarded minus the board-approved budget for the same program and fiscal year. A negative number means the program came in under budget.
Change from prior yearHow this year's giving compares with last year's.Total awarded in a fiscal year minus total awarded in the fiscal year before it, divided by the prior year.
Goal progressHow far the fund has come toward each five-year goal. Results from FY2023 through the latest complete year, divided by the five-year target. The community-led goal is a share, so it compares the share to date with the 40 percent target.
Expected paceWhere the fund would be if it moved toward the goal evenly.Years completed divided by five. After FY2026, four of five years are complete, so expected pace is 80 percent.

People reached adjustment rule

Before FY2023, the grant report form asked grantees for the number of people served, and many grantees counted a person once for every visit. Starting in FY2023 the form asks for unduplicated people. When the fund compared both counts on a set of FY2022 reports that included them, unique people averaged about 60 percent of the reported number. The dashboard therefore multiplies reported reach by 0.60 for grants awarded in FY2021 and FY2022 and by 1.00 for grants awarded in FY2023 and later. The rule applies by the fiscal year of the award, not the year of the report.

Three grants reported reach about ten times higher than similar grants in the same program, which usually means an extra zero was typed on the form. Those three figures stay in the reported measure but are held out of the adjusted measure until the grantee confirms them. You can find them in the Grant Explorer by searching for "review".

Program names

Several programs changed names between FY2021 and FY2024. The data stores both the name printed on the award letter and the current program, and every chart groups by the current program so that trends are not broken by a rename. The crosswalk on the Investment History page lists every name and the years it was used. The Neighborhood Tables program grew out of a one-year pilot in FY2021, so its first-year dollars are small.

Things to keep in mind

People reached for FY2024 through FY2026 is lower than in earlier years because many of those grants are still active or have final reports due, so the goal progress for people reached will rise as reports arrive. Rapid Response dollars were highest in FY2023 and FY2025 because more disaster responses were funded in those years, and they dropped in FY2026. The share of dollars going to community-led organizations has risen from about 23 percent in FY2021 to about 39 percent in FY2026, but the share for the five-year goal period is still below its 40 percent target because the early goal years were lower. Grant amounts are in US dollars at the exchange rate on the award date.

About the data

Sample data. All names, organizations, and figures are fictional. The data model behind this dashboard is a star schema with one grant fact table and dimensions for organization, program, geography, fiscal calendar, populations served, and targets.
